I have been coaching parents living with autism since 2000, just like you, who want to help their child lead the most meaningful life possible. My journey in this area started in the 1980’s when autism was still not so much in the public eye. My mom, who first sparked my interest to help others with special needs, was a job coach for Goodwill in the 1980’s. She would take me with her on company picnics each year. After each picnic on our car ride home, she would ask me if any of the clients I met piqued my interest. Each time, I would describe a different client, and each time she would say, “that person has autism”. Thus, I found my interest at a very young age always turning towards those with autism. It was no wonder I took to this field of helping individuals with autism like a fish in water.
In my 20 years experience of helping families living with autism, I was hearing the same story from parents about the focus being solely on their child. The parents were suffering and nobody was listening. Parents living with autism are feeling they are not getting enough help, not being able to “sign off”.
Overall, parents living with autism have been feeling burnt out, judged, helpless, and unsure about their child’s future for too long. After 20 years of working with autistic children, I’ve become laser focused on bringing relief to parents, so they can better help their child with autism lead the most meaningful life possible.
